In a recent roundtable discussion with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, the state’s sportsbook operators voiced their concerns over proposed data privacy regulations.

If passed in their current form, the state’s new regulations would be among the strictest of their kind in the U.S.

The proposed rules, which must be completed for implementation by late November, would largely stop Massachusetts online sportsbooks from sharing personal user information with third parties.

This has led to significant pushback from the industry, with many operators requesting more time and clarity to comply. Some operators even pointed out that similar legislation in other gambling markets has taken years to complete.

However, commissioner Eileen O’Brien confirmed that the MGC will be listening, and that there is time to make changes.

“It may be that this reg is going to have to come back up several times in front of us, a series of minor tweaks,” she said.

Extraordinarily Difficult to Implement

One of the primary concerns raised by operators is the proposed “opt-in” system for sharing user data.

Under the current regulations, bettors would need to actively choose to allow operators to share or use their information beyond what is necessary for business operations.

David Prestwood, representing Boston-based DraftKings, said operators would be in favor of an “opt-out” system instead.

“Every individual customer could have its own menu of uses for its data and that would be extraordinarily difficult to implement,” Prestwood said.

“It makes it practically infeasible to conduct a lot of reasonable business practices, like marketing, because they rely on vendors.”

Opt Out and Responsible Gambling

However, Jared Rinehimer, from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, countered the sportsbooks argument by emphasizing that the Commission feels informed consent is a priority.

Sports betting operators then bought in Michael Wohl, a Canadian psychology professor specializing in gambling disorders, to offer a counterpoint.

He expressed concerns that the “opt-in” system might compromise responsible gambling measures. He said it could result in ineffective and biased data for detection of problem patterns, as many problematic players might choose not to share their information with third-party monitoring services.

The proposed regulations also pose challenges in terms of data sharing.

The same opt-outs that could affect problem gambling detection and prevention will also cause problems for operators working with marketing and sports betting data firms.

Timelines Moving Forward

Another significant point of contention is the time line for implementing these regulations. While the rules were approved in June with a deadline set for November 17th, operators have expressed doubts about the feasibility of this time line. They argue that the five-month window is insufficient, especially given the unique challenges posed by the Massachusetts regulations.

Alex Ursa from Betr highlighted that in Europe, similar regulations took up to two years to implement.

Despite potentially unwilling to compromise on some issues, the MGC did show a willingness overall to work with operators. The commission has requested operators to provide a realistic time line for implementing the rules and to identify any waivers they might need in the meantime.

The MGC also held a further meeting on Thursday in which they discussed their upcoming rules changes for betting company logo displays in sports stadiums.

This could prove problematic for Massachusetts retail sportsbooks. DraftKings specifically requested extra time to prepare for the change, saying it could cost them millions to implement.

Massachusetts sportsbooks take total wagers of around $300 million a month from state bettors. Since legalizing in March this year, the state has made more than $50 million in taxes from operators.

Personally, we aren’t really trying to tamper with Starfields HUD. However, as previously stated, Bethesda’s games are not always tailored to everyone’s preferences. Because of this, BetterHUD is one of the best mods for Starfield. Essentially, this mod allows you to customize things like your XP indicator, discovery text, hit markers, and enemy health bars. Overall, there are numerous ways to tailor the HUB to your tastes. So, if you don’t like how something looks on your screen, BetterHUD is likely to have a solution.

This mod removes the epilepsy and seizure warning from the startup process, as well as the Bethesda logo video. Furthermore, you can remove the daily message and Starfield logo. Leaving you with an amazing picture of a sun creeping out behind a planet and peering into the unknown abyss.

All this mod does is add a description to each skill, so you can know what it does before going through with it. That way, you have a lot more control over how you want to customize your character’s build. It might even be worth downloading this mod before starting another run so you know how to prepare for the next one.

With 38% of Americans regularly reading the thrilling adventures within comics, and Marvel and DC churning out more movies and TV shows, it’s clear that this artistic universe isn’t going anywhere. 

National Comic Book Day is approaching on September 25th and we’re celebrating by unmasking America’s most cherished superhero and dastardly supervillains. We carried out a nationwide survey to reveal who is the country’s ultimate comic book character.

Key Findings:

• Batman reigns as America’s #1 comic book character, according to 34 states.
• Spider-Man is America’s favorite Marvel comic book character. 
• The nation’s best-loved villain is the Joker.
• 66.8% of Americans pledge their allegiance to Marvel, more than DC (33.2%). 

America’s favorite comic book character goes to…

From prominent superheroes like Superman to the delightful, wicked supervillains like Harley Quinn, the world of comic books portrays an endless amount of characters, regardless of which league they came from. But here’s the burning question: who’s the super-ior character favorite nationwide? 

It’s time to cast the bat-signal, because Batman lands at the top of the charts as America’s #1 comic book character, earning the approval of 34 states (23.1%). Gotham’s Dark Knight leaves an impressionable mark on our society, resonating with many because of his lack of superpowers and “regular guy” (well, as regular as billionaires go) status; yet brims with determination, imperfections and commitment to justice. Plus, what’s more iconic than the “I’m Batman” catchphrase? It’s a bat-tastic line!

Swinging into action and casting his web of popularity across the nation, Spider-Man is crowned the second favorite hero in America. Nine states (15.8%) pinned Spider-Man as their character of choice, due to the irony of his relatability. Underneath all the spider-like superpowers and bag of cool tricks, lies a bright high school teenager trying to navigate life. His character has spun a web of affection, as multiple blockbuster movies have been produced about him. 

Lassoing in America’s truth, Wonder Woman stands in third place as America’s beloved comic character, according to 5.7% of respondents. She stands tall as Hawaii’s champion superhero and a beacon for many across the nation, with her commitment to equality, respect, compassion, and non-violence. Wonder Woman truly embodies the ideals of a hero: good, powerful and loving. 

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman soaring into fourth place in America’s comic character hierarchy (5.7%). This comes as no surprise as he was the first widely hailed superhero back in June 1938. With his iconic ‘S’ symbol, strength, and virtue, he is the fan favorite for those who reside in Vermont and West Virginia (and surprisingly, not Kansas). Up, up, and away he goes! 

Howling in at fifth is none other than Wolverine, the mutant hero who captured the hearts of 5.7% of Americans and the state of New Mexico. With his animal-like senses, regenerative healing powers, and retractable claws, the immortal character is the most-loved anti-hero among the X-Men clan. 

Rooting for the anti-heroes: America’s favorite villains

Flipping the comic pages to the darker side, we asked respondents who their favorite villains were – because in the comic universe, these sinister characters are just as vital as heroes. Here’s what they have to say.

Leading the villainous charge with his maniacal grin is the one and only, Joker. His wicked charm swept the nation according to 28.7% of the votes, labeling him as the ultimate anti-hero. Beyond the eminent makeup, many are fascinated by the character’s ego, chaotic schemes, and eerily charismatic personality. He treads the fine line between being quick-witted and chilling. It’s a performance that’s no joke! 

Clawing her way up is Catwoman, securing her position as America’s second-favorite villain, as voted by 11.3% of comic enthusiasts. Also from the DC universe, Catwoman was originally crafted as a likable villain, rather than vile. Her crimes aren’t that evil to an extent, so some even consider her as an anti-hero, given her occasional assistance to Batman. It’s quite a purr-fectly intriguing spot to be in for a villain, right? 

They say she’s crazy, but she has a good excuse because Harley Quinn comes in third place with the approval of 10.5% of Americans. Corrupted by the Joker’s influence, her madness and charm also captivated readers and viewers alike. People find her to be the perfect villainous character because her crime was never about hurting others, but doing what she impulsively wanted. 

Representing the Marvel universe, Loki takes fourth with 8.3% of the vote. The nuanced villain continues to be a crowd favorite as he’s always on the cusp of redemption, revealing layers of complexity. One moment, we empathize with him, and the next, we witness his true (green) colors.

Finishing off the top five list of villains with 7.9% of the respondents’ votes, is X-Men’s antagonist, Magneto. With his compelling backstory, visually stunning powers, and mix of admirable qualities and flaws, he’s proven to be a magnetic draw for fans of the Marvel universe. 

Honorable mention: Marvel or DC?

There’s no rivalry quite as legendary as the good ole’ Marvel vs. DC showdown, in the world of comics. Fans have been duking it out over the years, each with its own opinions of who has the best characters, iconic teams, and plotlines. But fear no more, because we’ve settled the score once again. 

A whopping 66.8% of Americans proudly voted for Team Marvel, aligning themselves with the likes of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and basically the rest of the Avengers clan. Meanwhile, only 33.2% casted their votes for Team DC, representing Batman, Superman, and the Justice League. 

Do you agree with our nationwide findings? In the end, whether you’re swinging with Spidey or fighting for justice with Batman, one thing remains clear: people’s love for comic books and their unforgettable characters.

In September 2023, we surveyed 2,000 U.S. residents across the country about their favorite comic book characters. The average age of respondents was 37.4 years old. The representative sample comprised of 52.2% male, 45.4% female, 2.1% non-binary, 0.2% transgender, and 0.2% other.

Doug’s Flop Analysis

Daniel decides to bet half pot with his top pair good kicker. I want to talk about a couple of things on the flop.

I play a single size strategy on the flop — which means I have one specific size I will use when I choose to bet the flop. I think Daniel does the same, but I’m not sure. So, we’re going to approach [this analysis] from the perspective of using an optimal, single size.

If you’re using an optimal single size, Daniel’s size of half pot is not a very great size. The reason is that it’s simply too big to allow you to value bet with hands like Kings, Queens, and Jacks.

If we look at the total value of this strategy [in PioSolver], the out of position player’s pot share would be 4660 chips when they use the big size.

And if you use a small size, like I’m recommending something like 22% pot, the value is 4710 chips. So, basically you make about 50 chips more [on average] by using the smaller size strategy.

It’s not the end of the world. You can definitely use either one. But one of the things I like about the small size, the 22% pot rather than the 50% pot, is this is what the flop c-bet range looks like for Daniel if he uses the size he used…

Basically, if you go small, like I’m recommending, not only do you make more money, but you also can just bet every single hand and there’s nothing that Button can really do about it

It is a much easier strategy to play and is a higher value strategy to play. I would strongly recommend doing this over what Daniel did here on the flop.

Going back to Daniel’s size that he did use Ace Jack would quite often be betting here, but it would do a check about 20%, 25%, 30% of the time depending on the combo.

You can see the ones like Ace-Jack with a Jack clubs actually check almost half the time, whereas the ones with no club are a little more likely just to bet and get some value.

Also, when you have a diamond, you’re a little less likely to bet because you block some backdoor flush draw hands that would call. So, Ace-Jack with the Jack of Diamonds doesn’t like betting as much as Ace-Jack with the Jack of hearts.

I know it seems kind of nitpicky and not that important, but these small differences between these hands are actually something that matter when you’re creating your strategy.

If you’re going to try and play poker at a really high level, you want to be thinking about blocker and unblocker effects as you go through a hand.

Anyway, one thing that Daniel successfully did here was he kind of knocked me off of playing a correct strategy. All of the work that I’ve done on boards like this assumes that your opponent is going to bet a really small size, which Daniel did not do. He bet half pot.

Because of [Daniel’s bigger size], the Button does almost no raising. If we look here, when I decided to raise to 12,000 on the flop, basically I don’t have almost any raises. In fact, I would only be raising 1.4% of the time.

Typically speaking, when raise frequency gets below 2 or 3%, you don’t really lose that much by never having raises at all. And that’s definitely what I would recommend to do here.

If I look at , specifically, it would always call. If we look at the EV of raising versus calling — they’re very, very similar. [Calling has a value of 11903 chips whereas raising has a value of 11851 chips.]

But the point of the matter is when sizes get big on flops like this, your opponent is much more polar. It makes way less sense for you to be raising.

So, I do think my raise on the flop, while very close, is a mistake.

I want to show you guys why I did what I did, though.

If your opponent bets the small size and we look at what you’re supposed to do…

Salmon = Raise 3x | Green = Call | Blue = Fold

…you do lots of raising. The idea is that you can’t let your opponent bet really small and knock you off a bunch of equity. You need to fight back, get value, get your bluffs in and work all these ranges together.

Versus the small bet, Five-Four of clubs will raise about a fourth of the time:

So, there’s a good principle here that I use, which is that this hand does fit into a raising strategy.

But I did miss the main strategic concept, which is that as that flop size from your opponent gets bigger, you should respond by never raising.

This is going to make the rest of the hand a little bit weird because we’re out in the wilderness in a line that shouldn’t really happen.

Anyway, back to the hand, I raised a 12,000 and now over to Negreanu. What should he do facing this raise?

He actually does do a good chunk of 3-betting on the flop:

Salmon = 3-bet | Green = Call | Blue = Fold

The strong Aces like 3-betting, as do [the sets with] Pocket Sevens and Threes. (Note that this matrix is not proportional to weight. This is just giving you an idea of what the strategy should be.)

So, basically if Negreanu has any Ace, he’s going to at least call. If he has a pocket pair, the strong pairs are more likely to call. The weaker pairs are more likely to do some folding — like Eights, Nines, Tens. The stronger Aces are more likely to just call.

So, Ace Jack here actually do some 3-betting, but only when you have the Jack of clubs. I don’t mind just never doing this and only calling [with all Ace-Jacks], but I do think as you get closer to Ace-Queen, Ace-King, you have to put some uncomfortable 3-bets in on the flop.

Anyway, Daniel does decide to just call. Let’s take a turn.

Staples pondered his options, settled on a jam, and moved all-in for 10,167,932. Robinson instantly called, busting Staples in eighth, and claiming a 24.6 million pot for good measure.

Robinson kept hold of the chip lead for most of the final table action, but he trailed “antiZZZZ” when the Sunday Party reached the heads-up stage. The eventual champion won more than his fair share of early pots, and began establishing a lead for himself.

The final hand saw Robinson limp in on the button with pocket kings, and “antiZZZZ” check their ace-four of diamonds. “antiZZZZ” check-called a bet on the seven-six-eight flop, and a chunkier bet on the seven of diamonds turn, which put two diamonds out there. The river was the king of diamond, improving “antiZZZZ” to an ace-high flush but Robinson to another full house. “antiZZZZ” checked again, Robinson bet half-pot and snap-called when his opponent moved all-in.

How many hands can you play in live blackjack?

You can play as many hands as you want at most live blackjack tables. Wherever there is a vacant seat at the table, you can normally use it to play multiple hands in different seats – providing you have the bankroll for it. Unlike other card games such as Texas Hold’em Poker, where it’s not possible to take up multiple seats at a table, you can do so in blackjack because you are not playing against the other players at the table, only the dealer’s hand.

What does bet behind mean?

At some live casino blackjack tables, you may have the option to ‘bet behind’ another active player at the table. This means that you will be betting on your chosen player’s hand to beat the dealer’s hand. Although you will have no say or control over how the hand turns out, you obviously have a choice as to which player you choose to bet behind.

How does the dealer play their hand?

You should now know how to play your blackjack hand at the tables, but do you know how the dealer plays their own hand? Put simply, if the dealer’s first two cards add up to 16 or less, they must hit and take an additional card. If their first two cards value is between 18 and 21, they must stand and take no further cards.

If the dealer has a ‘hard’ 17, they must stand. A hard 17 is a hand that does not contain an ace or has one or more aces with the value at one. If the dealer has a ‘soft’ 17, they must hit and take an additional card. A soft 17 is a hand that does contain an ace with the value being at 11.

The dealer’s hand automatically wins the round if your hand busts, or if the option is available to surrender your hand and half of your original stake. Their hand also wins if it is closer to 21 than yours. If you and the dealer have hands of the same value, then this is a ‘push’. In this event, you receive your original stake in full due to the tied game.

It’s worth noting that the dealer has very little say in how they play their hand. They must adhere to the house rules of standing on hard 17 and hitting on soft 17. Under no circumstances can they change tac and play their hand differently.

Available payouts at the blackjack tables

First and foremost, if you win a hand of live blackjack against the dealer’s hand, you will win a payout worth 1:1. If you bet €10, you’ll receive €10 in winnings, plus your €10 stake back.

It’s a little less straightforward for blackjacks. Some tables payout 6:5 for blackjack, while others will pay 3:2. For example, if you bet €10 and get a blackjack at a 6:5 blackjack table, you’ll receive €12 in winnings, plus your €10 stake back. If you bet €10 and get a blackjack at a 3:2 blackjack table, you’ll get €15 in winnings, plus your €10 stake back.

Although bet behind is also considered a side bet option, there are two primary side bets that you can place when sat at most of our live blackjack tables:

• 21+3
  Let’s start with the 21+3 side bet. This one happens around the first two cards you receive, as well as the dealer’s visible ‘upcard’. If you can form a three-card poker hand using your first two cards and the dealer’s upcard (flush, straight, straight flush or three-of-a-kind) you will win a payout. The size of the payout depends on what kind of poker hand you can form. It typically ranges from 5:1 for a flush through to 100:1 for three-of-a-kind cards of the same suit.
   
• Perfect Pairs

  Whenever the dealer’s upcard is an ace, you will get the chance to buy ‘Insurance’. This requires you to pay half the size of your original stake as a side bet, which pays out 2:1 if the dealer has a blackjack, ensuring you break even for the hand. The dealer will not have a blackjack more than 50% of the time, so Insurance is a statistically bad play – unless you are certain their next card will be a ten.
   
• Surrender 16 against a ten (if allowed)
  If early or late ‘Surrender’, the best time to use it is when you have a hand value of 16 against the dealer’s ten. There are plenty of cards in the deck that can bust your hand and a similar amount that can give the dealer’s hand an unassailable advantage. That’s why it makes more sense to cut your losses and surrender half your stake in this position.

Football has long been at the top of the mountain for sports bettors. More money is typically gambled on football than any other sport.

Just in time for the kickoff of the NFL season this week, marketing firm Optimove released a report that offers insights into NFL betting. The survey uses a small sample of 287 US sports betting fans who earn at least $75,000 a year and are 21 years old or older.

The vast majority of respondents to the survey say they’ve placed a bet on NFL games. 70% of those participating in this survey say they have “definite intentions” to bet on the NFL games this year. 37% say they’ll place more than one NFL bet per week.

Heading into the season, NFL bettors are confident in their skills. 57% of bettors say they’ve had at least moderate success betting on pro football games. While 43% say they break even or worse, only 9% say they’re “unsuccessful” bettors.

Types of NFL bets

Sports betting preferences have changed a lot since the repeal of PASPA, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act in 2018. However, 62% of respondents plan to place a traditional point spread wager on an NFL game this year.

Live betting has become extremely popular in the past five years thanks to the ease of using an online sportsbook. The survey shows that 61% will place a live bet during the upcoming NFL season.

The report shows that:

• 53% will place an over/under total bet on an NFL game
• Less than half of bettors, 46%, will place a moneyline wager
• Only 35% said they will place a full-game parlay during the upcoming NFL season
• 20% say they’ll place a same-game parlay
• Just 10% will make a teaser bet

Most NFL bets will be $100 or less

Many sportsbooks promote large wagers during a given week. However, this report shows that isn’t the case for most bettors.

• 36% of respondents say they’ll gamble between $11 – $50 on individual NFL games. This is the largest segment of wagers.
• Another 25% of bettors will gamble $51 – $100 per game

Altogether, 81% of NFL bets will be $100 or less according to the Optimove report on NFL wagering.

Regarding big bets, only 5% will wager $500 or more on an NFL game.

DraftKings and FanDuel are the most popular sportsbook brands

The popularity of online sportsbooks around the country is nothing new. Half of the respondents will gamble using an online sports betting app. Another 19% will use a sportsbook website online.

• Only 19% of respondents say they usually make in-person bets in a casino or sportsbook
• 23% say that DraftKings is their preferred sportsbook website. This is more than any other sportsbook
• 13% say they prefer FanDuel sportsbook

The biggest surprise might be that 21% say they have no preference for where they place sports bets.

• 54% say they use at least two different sports betting websites during any given week
• Another 18% use at least three different sports betting websites every week

While promotions are a popular reason for sports bettors to use a specific brand, most (64%) just want an app that’s easy to use. 48% say promotions lead to them using a specific website.

72% of those who use sports betting apps and websites prefer a personalized experience.

To set-up a game a Faro, place the extra 13 cards in two rows face up in the middle of the playing table. These cards make up the tableau. From the top left going right, the card order should be King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, and 8. The 7 should be placed to the right of and halfway down from the 8. The 6 should then be placed to the left of the 7 and directly below the 8. From the 6 going left, the card order should be 5, 4, 3, 2, and Ace.
